The Ashoka tree is an evergreen that is found in the Himalayas and across the Indian sub-continent. The bark of this tree is often used as a uterine tonic to support female reproductive health and treat menstrual problems, while the roots and seeds are typically used to treat skin conditions. In Ayurveda, Ashoka is classed a divine herb for its benefits for the mind and the body. In Sanskrit, the word ‘Ashoka’ means “no grief” and it is believed that the herb can remove grief from the heart.
